NASCONFIG file missing or file configuration help

Background: Some of our UICC (SIM) cards don't have this file or it's too small. Please contact our support to get help and a script to create the file on the card (if you purchased the SIM card from us obviously). Furthermore Card Admin doesn't “interpret” the content of the file, so you have to learn how to configure it in binary mode with the help of the ETSI specifications.

Once you get the script from us, run it and the file will be created.

Configuration:

We'll just point out the basics here, and you'll have to do the rest (like looking into TS 24.368, http://www.arib.or.jp/IMT-2000/V900Jul11/5_Appendix/Rel10/24/24368-a00.pdf that describes the coding for the content)

So the 6FE8 file is empty or contains Tags. The tags are currently: 80,81,82,83,84 and 85. It can contain 1 tag or all 5.

Tag:

80 NAS signalling priority

81 NMO I Behaviour Content

82 Attach with IMSI Content

83 Minimum Periodic Search Timer

84 Extended access barring

85 Timer T3245

The file is filled with TAG – LENGTH of content – CONTENT

For example, if you have NAS signalling priority with content 01 (NAS signalling low priority) and Timer T3245 with content 01 (Timer used) and length 1 byte = 01, the value in the file is:

80 01 01 85 01 01 FF FF FF FF….

Unused bytes shall be set to 'FF'

Lookup section 4.2.94 EFNASCONFIG (Non Access Stratum Configuration)

* Activate service 96 in USIM service table (UST):

If you use NASCONFIG then service 96 must be activated. Unfortunately Card Admin doesn’t interpret the last byte (byte nr 12) in UST, only to service 90. So we have to manually calculate the correct HEX value in the last byte for the services 89 to 96.

Bit nr 8 in byte 12 represents service 96. If a service is activated the bit is set to 1, and if not it's set to 0.

TRANSLATE TO HEX: BIN2HEX(10000000)=80, in this case only service 96 (bit 8) is activated. So if you also have service 89 and 90 activated, then:

IMSI

International Mobile Subscriber Identity. A unique number associated with each mobile phone user. It is stored in the SIM inside the phone and is sent by the phone to the network. It is primarily intended for obtaining information on the use of the Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) by subscribers. It is also used for other functions such as to compute the Paging Occasions (PO) in LTE. See 3GPP TS22.016 and TS23.003.

SIM

A subscriber identity module or subscriber identification module (SIM) is an integrated circuit chip that is intended to securely store the international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) number and its related key, which are used to identify and authenticate subscribers on mobile telephony devices.

CSG

Closed Subscriber Group. A set of subscribers who are permitted to access a particular cell to which access is restricted. See 3GPP TS25.367 and TS36.304.

IMS

Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem. An architectural framework for delivering Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia services via UTRAN and E- UTRAN. See 3GPP TS23.228 and TS23.406.

IMT

International Mobile Telecommunications. The name given to families of standards defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to satisfy a certain set of requirements, for example in terms of data rate and mobility.Examples are IMT-2000, which encompasses third generation (3G) wireless communication systems, and IMT-Advanced which is designed to encompass the next major generation of systems.

RAN

Radio Access Network. A RAN consists of the ground-based infrastructure required for delivery of communication between UEs and the Core Network (CN). In LTE, the RAN consists of one or more base stations (i.e. eNodeBs). Examples of other RANs are UMTS, TD-SCDMA, GSM, CDMA2000 and WiMAX.

RAT

Radio Access Technology. The RAT is the type of radio technology used in a Radio Access Network (RAN) to access the Core Network (CN), e.g. UMTS, GSM, CDMA2000, WiMAX.

DM

Device Management: Management of mobile phone configuration, updates and other managed objects of mobile devices over the entire life-cycle as defined by OMA DM. DM is also used generically to describe all methods and activities associated with mobile device management.

SE

Secure Element. A secure and personalised physical component added to a system to manage users rights and to host secure apps. SE typically consist of a Silicon Chip, a secure Operating System, application software and a secure protocol to communicate to the device. SE can be a removable device (such as UICC or ÂµSD for mobile devices or MIM for M2M connected machines). SE can also be components inside the system.

BS

Base Station. The entity in a radio access network responsible for radio trans- mission and reception in one or more cells to and from the UE. In LTE the BS is known as the eNodeB.

HO
